LET THE SUN SHINE IN

The Fifth Dimension reveled in the lyrics 'peace will guide the planets, and love will steer the stars... let the sunshine in' and the stars will be out in full force on Jan. 24 on both coasts as Gulfstream and Santa Anita co-host the Sunshine Millions.

Purses totaling $3.6 million will be showcased and since there are just too many stars to follow, let's concentrate today on two high profile races at Anita, the $500,000 one and one-eighth mile Sunshine Millions Turf and the $300,000 6-furlong Sunshine Millions Sprint.

Let's take a look at some of the fastest horses in the country that will line up in the Sprint.

The race first has to start at the card table with Bob Black Jack and secondly with the weapon known as Fatal Bullet.

Bob Black Jack is just one quick colt that can give you a sub :21 quarter when in the mood. He has some feet issues and therefore has a spotty race record but when he shows up with the A game, he is one tough cookie. Fresh off a win in the Malibu on the Pro Ride on opening day, he has shown his class in the past by giving Colonel John all he could handle in the Santa Anita Derby last year.

If he clears, it could easily just come up '21'.

To say Fatal Bullet is locked and loaded would be an understatement to say the least. The light went on for this reformed claimer after a press and fade run at Belmont last June in a Grade 2 event. He licked his wounds, went back to Woodbine, strung together wins with Beyers ranging from 105 to 108, and then almost stole the BC Sprint before being inhaled by Midnight Lute.

That Pro Ride effort should bode well for him and his best asset could be the fact that although he has :21 and small change speed, he doesn't need the lead to win.

Two other runners must be given a legit look and one will be a price. In Summation can close like the best lawyers in the world. He's won 11 of 27 career, cashed on the Pro-Ride and is capable of popping with a 108 Beyer.

The longshot play could be Yesbyjimminy.

He's been Grade 2 placed, only ran one bad race last year and was hung wide that day, can be placed anywhere and still win and will be a price.

Sunshine Millions Turf will be a cavalry charge but there will be a group of bettors that will be thinking, let's get lucky, as in Lucky J. H.

This son of Cee's Tizzy took them to the top of the lane in this race last year but wilted when it counted. The race was at Gulfstream but now Lucky has the home court.

He was coming off a layoff in last year's renewal but this season is fresh from winning on the hillside at Anita when tracking a 1:07 and change pace. Eight for 18 career, he doesn't need the lead to win and he will be tough.

Another option is comebacking Precious Passion. The millionaire has won at a number of different venues; he's won off the bench and brings legit speed.

The 'now' longshot horse just might be recent maiden breaker Cavanal. He teased several times, finally graduated in fine fashion and he has a right to mature with grace, as his dam was a stakes winner and near $200,000 earner.

Here's hoping you get a good trip and all your wagers shine.
