SNAKE EYES

Snake Eyes, two ones when rolling 2 dice, is the lowest possible roll in Craps and is basically a reference to bad luck but the streak for trainer Patrick Biancone could be over soon once he gets a few more starters at Santa Anita this meet.

Biancone has his viper mood cranked up for success, as he has to be feeling some kind of vindication for his suspension for using snake venom last year.

Players should now this is a serious horseman and last year he purchased a Kentucky farm with fellow Frenchmen and childhood friend Fabien Ouaki and he will be less scrutinized a bit in his own surroundings.

Biancone has had a rough start in 2009 as his student Nownownow has been the lone winner of the Anita meet at a fat 18-1 but he has been right there with some other prices.

His trainee Throne of Power kicked off 2009 off an over 2-month vacation and he was a solid second at 19-1 under Joe Talamo.

Biancone also trains Super Nana, who is quickly racing herself into shape and was a clever third at nearly 13-1 in mid January.

The trainer was close to celebrating on New Year's Day when he saddled modest $30,000 purchase Broken Silence in a 5 and a half-furlong run on the Pro Ride.

The son of Broken Vow was mired inside early, but rallied with interest to be second at nearly 11-1.

Biancone will have to be realistic with his student Baroness Thatcher. She has been on a stakes diet most of her career but she needs either a drop in company or a circuit switch to score. She was just a so-so third in her 2009 bow but if she is correctly spotted, she will win this meet.

So how should horse bettors approach returnees from the Biancone barn?

First off, be careful of taking everything he says at face value as a lot of European trainers play with the press and tell them only exactly what they want them to hear.

In his career, he is an 18% trainer and his starters have earned over $22 million. He sends his horses well placed as 45% have been in the money in his lifetime.

Players should not be wary about betting this guy off a layoff, as he's equally as potent with runners coming back off a 6-month layoff or with runners returning between one and 3 months.

He doesn't dabble with cheap horses and has not really been known to have horses cranked to the gills to start their careers.

When Biancone adds blinkers he usually means business and he is super potent when going first-time Lasix.

Known as a guy that can get horses fit, when he cuts back runners from a route to a sprint, those runners are usually fit enough to make legit late runs at the leaders.

In this day of the synthetic, one of Biancone's calling cards is when he goes from turf back to an artificial surface. He's nearly 30% with that ploy and at a flat-bet profit to boot.

Lastly, horse bettors should look to this guy to fire on all cylinders as winter turns to spring. He's had a long time to think about his harsh suspension and revenge will be a prime motive.
