WE ARE ALL WITNESSES

Roll over Beethoven, tell Tchaikovsky the news about a real Triple Crown threat that has Secretariat as a muse.

Not only did Big Brown toy with his foes in the Preakness he did it without being asked for his best as rider Kent Desormeaux never hit him with the stick and he won geared down with plenty left in the tank.

The talk was of a possible bounce, even Brown's trainer Dick Dutrow Jr. acknowledged the concept, and if you considered that the runner went from a 109 Derby Beyer to a 100 Preakness Beyer, he DID bounce but still won for fun.

The comments in the official chart tell the story: " ..was taken in hand along the inside...angled five wide, moved clear... then was taken in hand through the final sixteenth.

The others that tried to put the heat on Big Brown early paid the price. The pace setters, Gayego and Riley Tucker finished last and second to last.

There is a saying the time is only important if you are in jail or waiting for a bus and this has never been more true concerning this race. The way this guy won suggests he very well could be one of the ones.

Sure, at this point in time the crop doesn't not look overpowering. Usually it is wise to reserved comment on crops until later in the season but this group is certainly not as good as last year's stars.

For the record the final time of the Preakness was 1:54.80, but he obviously could have gone much faster.

Riding high in April, May and probably June, the connections are sitting on a huge syndication of Big Brown to the tune of $50 million or so and fans better enjoy this site while we can.

You heard it here first, this guy will only run one more time win or lose in the Belmont Stakes so cue up the Tivo, try to get the $2 win ticket for a momento and get ready to see a good show.

We very well may be looking at greatness here. Big Brown raced well past the wire and pulled up well and his connections had the Belmont Stakes in mind weeks ago so they are hoping he not been squeezed dry just yet.

His connections wanted a fresh horse for the final leg of the Triple Crown and that they have. The colt has the style that will be effective at Belmont in 3 weeks and he seems to have the stamina quotient that will succeed in New York.

In 1978 Affirmed won the Triple Crown so we are talking 30 years and to accentuate how tough it is to pull this feat off, know that it was 25 years after Citation pulled the Triple that Secretariat did.

One runner that has to be looked at long and hard in his next start is Tres Borrachos. The improving runner figured to be forwardly placed, but when the gates were sprung the best-laid plans of mice and men went up in smoke.

Under Tyler Baze, Tres went to his knees breaking dead last, was checked, and never got involved. This guy is in good hands and if he shows up in California or even in the Belmont next time, he must be considered a valid threat to at least get a bit part of the purse.
