The Federico Tesio Preview

Run at 1 1/8 miles at Pimlico Racecourse, the $150,000 Federico Tesio is historically a prep for the Preakness Stakes (gr. I). A field of eight is set to go to the post on Saturday, and half of them have faced each other before. Four of the entrants are coming out of the Private Terms Stakes on March 22nd.

Fast Talking on the rail finished 8th in that race, but rebounded to take an allowance at Laurel by 6 1/2 lengths on April 5th. He is two for four lifetime. Regal Solo finished second in the Private Terms, the best finish in that race out of any of the entrants in this event, and is three for ten lifetime for trainer Linda Albert. He won an allowance optional claimer three starts back. Wonder Mon finished 7th in the Private Terms, and since winning his first two races, a maiden and an allowance, he has finished well behind Hey Byrn, Cool Coal Man, and Fierce Wind. Cave's Valley finished 4th in the Private Terms and third in the Miracle Wood before that. After a stellar start to his career, winning his first three and defeating the well regarded Atoned twice, trainer Michael Trombetta has struggled to get this colt back to the winner's circle. Cave's Valley worked a bullet on April 15th.

Trainer John Servis has a big shot in this race with Indian Jump, a solid colt who is 3 for 5 lifetime and is coming off those three wins in a row. He won a $25,000 maiden claimer and then two allowance races. He worked a bullet at Philadelphia Park on April 3rd.

Icabad Crane is the lesser known stablemate of Adriano. The Graham Motion trainee was third in the Rushaway Stakes at Turfway Park and before that won an allowance race by two lengths and a maiden race by a head.

Deputyville and Mint Lane round out the field.
