Gazelle, Cigar Mile Highlight Smoking Saturday of Betting Action at Big A
Let’s hope the effects of Trypotphan are out of our system by Saturday afternoon, as Aqueduct is putting on a pretty good show complete with four graded stakes.
The final two Grade 1 races on the New York calendar will be run, the $250,000 Cigar Mile Handicap for older runners, along with the $250,000 Gazelle for three-year-old fillies.
Two-year-olds will start off the stakes action on Saturday, with a field of ten fillies going in the $200,000 Demoiselle (G2) followed by a field of ten juvenile boys going in the $200,000 Remsen. Both of the juvenile races will be run at nine furlongs.
Disposiblepleasure is the 2/1 morning line favorite in the Demoiselle coming off a very impressive maiden score where the Todd Pletcher filly took the field gate to wire to win by eleven lengths.
The filly is by Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo out of a With Approval mare that has dropped three other winners including stakes winner Romantic Hideaway.
She will face three fillies that have already won stakes including the Christophe Cement trainee Lady Cohiba, who is coming off a score in the May Night Stakes over a sloppy track at Aqueduct on Nov. 16.
Wildcat’s Smile won the New York Breeders’ Futurity at Finger Lakes and steps outside of the state bred ranks for the first time, and Awalkinthemoonlite ships in from Hawthorne where she won the Gold Digger in her most recent outing.
The Remsen is one of the best betting races on the card and is the first leg of the $250,000 guaranteed late Pick 4.
Tom Albertrani saddles the 3/1 morning line favorite in Souper Speedy, a gate to wire winner in his debut over a muddy surface at Belmont Park on Oct. 1.
The colt is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Brilliant Speed.
The lone stakes winner in the field is Managed Account, who won the Toccet Stakes over the main track at Aqueduct on Nov. 6 for trainer Terri Pompay.
A competitive field of seven including a Mike Repole owned entry will take to the track for the Cigar Mile.
The Bill Mott trained To Honor and Serve is looking to bounce back off a seventh place finish in the Breeders’’ Cup Classic (G1) and is the 7/5 morning line favorite.
Haynesfield is coming off a win on New York Showcase Day in the Empire Classic. The winner of the 2010 Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) was beaten a head in last year’s Cigar Mile by Jersey Town in a tough beat.
Pletcher sends out the Repole entry of Calibrochoa and Caixa Eletronica, who were both scratched out of Thursday’s Fall Highweight.
Saturday’s card gets underway at 12:00 ET.

Let’s head out to Aqueduct for Saturday’s featured race of the day:
Aqueduct Race 9 The Gazelle (G1) Post time 3:49 ET
- Savvy Supreme 4/1
- Awesome Feather 2/1
- R Gypsy Gold 7/2
- Love and Pride 8/1
Savvy Supreme came off a two month break and was a game second last out in the Remington Park Oaks behind Tourmaline, who came back to finish sixth in the Mrs Revere (G3) on turf in her next start. Her first trip around two turns was her best effort where she won the Monmouth Oaks (G3). The runner up and fourth place finisher in that race won stakes in their next starts. The $520K Keeneland purchase looks capable of handling nine furlongs. She is by Distorted Humor out of an unraced Storm Bird mare that also dropped a pretty good runner in Commentator ($2 million) who was a Grade 1 winner at this distance.
Awesome Feather came back off an 11 month layoff with a solid effort winning the Le Slew and looks primed for a good effort here second off the bench for the Chad Brown barn that is strong second time off the layoff. The filly was perfect as a two-year-old, wining all six starts including the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). She makes her second start since Frank Stronach ponied up $2.3 million to purchase her. She looks as if she will be tough here, but her 2/1 ML figures to look more like 6/5 by the time they load her in the gate.
