Pletcher Duo Figure Big in May Night at Big A With $89,732 Pick 6 Carryover Up for Grabs

The huge upset win by Shane Roars ($189.50) in Sunday’s New York Stallion Series Great White Way brings us to Wednesday’s card at the Big A with a $89,732 Pick 6 carryover.

Last Friday’s card included a three day carryover and there were two lucky horseplayers that solved the Pick 6, with each ticket worth a cool $246,256.

Wednesday’s pool could get up to the neighborhood of $300,000 or so, but we will need to keep an eye on good old Mother Nature as there is a 70% chance of rain from Tuesday night right into late Wednesday afternoon.

Three of the races in the Pick 6 sequence are carded for the turf including the feature, the $60,000 May Night, which drew a field of nine with one main track only entrant.

If the race is taken off the turf it will be contested at one mile on the main track.

The Pick 6 sequence gets underway with the fourth race, a $30,000 non-winners of two scheduled for the turf at 1 1/16 miles.

Impetuous Spirit is the 7/2 morning line favorite off a runner up finish at the condition at Saratoga on Sept. 1. The gelding has only raced on turf in his three career starts.

The fifth race is a $25,000 maiden claiming affair on the main track that drew a field of seven two-year-old fillies.

McCarren Park is the 4/5 morning line favorite, while Linda Rice sends out the first timer Union Victory, who has an appealing pedigree for a wet track and drew Ramon Dominguez.

The sixth race is a state bred $16,000 maiden claimer that drew an overflowing field and is probably the toughest race in the Pick 6 sequence.

(The breakdown for the seventh race is below).

Rick a Chance is the 5/2 morning line favorite for the eighth race, a second level optional claimer that drew a field of nine fillies and mares who will go one mile on the main track.

If we are alive going into the nightcap, hopefully it will be with more than just a single. The final race on the card is a $20,000 maiden claimer carded for the turf but likely to be switched to the main track.

The race drew 16 entrants, with Herecomeseveryman the 9/5 morning line favorite. The Linda Rice trainee has come up on the wrong end of photos in his last two starts, most recently for a $25,000 tag at Saratoga on Sept. 3.

Let’s head out to Aqueduct for Wednesday’s featured race of the day:

Aqueduct Race 7 The May Night Post time 3:17 ET

  • St Pancras 4/1
  • Wholelottashakin 5/1
  • Crazy Party 5/2
  • More Than Love 3/
1

St Pancras is one of two in the race sent out by the Todd Pletcher barn and with Johnny V sticking with our third choice we should get a fair price on our top pick. The weather forecast does not look promising for today and this race seems likely to come off the turf and then would be contested at a one turn mile. Our top pick was caught wide throughout last out in the Natalma (G3) at Woodbine, a much tougher field than she catches here. Three have come out of that race to win next out including Stephanie’s Kitten, who won the Alcibiades (G1) at Keeneland on Oct. 7 followed by the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G2) at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4. The fifth place finisher in the Natalma was Hard Not to Like, who won the Cup & Saucer in her next start, then was fifth in the Juvenile Fillies. Our top pick was a good looking maiden winner two back in her second career start and first route try. This would be her first start on dirt, and she is bred to like dirt and a wet track. She is by Scat Daddy out of the stakes winner Marylebone ($172K) who did her best work on the main track.

Wholelottashakin is coming off a six furlong maiden score on the turf in her second career start. The effort was flattered when the runner up Sparks Will Fly came back to graduate in her next outing on Oct. 26. Two back in her debut she was a good second behind repeat winner Harbor Mist in the slop going seven furlongs. Harbor Mist came back to win the state bred Ann Clare in her next start on Sept. 1 at Saratoga. She has six sibs that are winners including Grade 3 winner Dewars Rocks. The Tom Bush runner is one of just three in here with experience over a wet track.

Crazy Party was the beaten favorite last out in the P G Johnson on turf in her second career start. She was a good looking maiden winner at the Spa in her debut going long on the turf. She is returning here off nearly a three month break for the Pletcher barn that is 23% winners with horses coming back off a 46-90 day break. She is as well suited as any of these pedigree wise for a trip over a wet track. She is by A.P. Indy out of a Miswaki mare that has dropped a trio of stakes winners, top earner Group 3 winner Quiet Royal ($435K).

Wagering:
WIN: St Pancras to win at 3/1 or better.
EX: 6,7 / 3,6,7,9
TRI: 6,7 / 3,6,7,9 / 1,3,6,7,9
