Private Terms Stakes Preview

A full field of thirteen will take to the gate for Laurel Park's 1 mile Private Terms Stakes. The $80,000 race is evenly matched with a few strong sophomores hoping to advance along the trail to the Preakness Stakes.

Cave's Valley is a logical choice. Trainer Michael Trombetta has found some difficulty with this son of Stephen Got Even. After three straight wins as a juvenile, Cave's Valley finished a well beaten 7th in the Delta Jackpot, then returned this year to be a badly outfinished 6th in the Whirlaway Stakes at Aqueduct. He is the fastest of the entrants and could very well rebound with a win here.

Vanderkaay is another talented colt. The winner of the Dancing Count Stakes in February, Vanderkaay has won three of seven starts, including an allowance at Calder in January. The biggest knock on the son of Malibu Moon is that he has never been further than seven furlongs.

Second to the nice colt Gattopardo in the Miracle Wood Stakes on the 1st of this month, Apple Special is another well regarded runner. Three for ten with almost $100,000 in earnings, Apple Special won the Maryland Juvenile Championship last fall.

Stablemates Indian Jump and Kudu are two other runners with chances in the Private Terms. Indian Jump is three for five with those victories coming all in a row. Jason Servis trains both colts, who are shipping in from Philadelphia Park. Kudu breaks from the twelve post and is two for five. He posted a bullet workouts for four furlongs on March 18th.
