Rushaway Stakes Preview

The Rushaway Stakes on Turfway Park's Lane's End Stakes undercard always plays second fiddle to the feature, but in the past few years some decent horses have exited the Rushaway. Last year's winner Dominican went on to upset Street Sense in the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland and in 2004 a horse named Brass Hat won on his way to $1.5 million in earnings.

Run over 1 1/16 miles and worth $100,000, this year's Rushaway drew a field of nine horses. The race is led by Big Glen, winner of Turfway's WEBN Stakes, who had a rough trip and faltered in the John Battaglia Memorial on the first of this month. He gets a new jockey in Rene Douglas for trainer Frank Brothers.

Two undefeated colts are entered, Miner's Claim and Icabad Crane. Miner's Claim is a royally bred son of Mineshaft trained by Mark Casse. Both of his wins have come over Woodbine's synthetic surface, but he hasn't run since winning an allowance by two lengths in November. Icabad Crane is a Graham Motion trainee that wil be piloted by Edgar Prado. The son of Jump Start won both of his starts at Aqueduct and last raced in January.

Todd Pletcher sends out Holidaze, last seen finishing 6th behind Visionaire in the Gotham Stakes. Prior to that effort, Holidaze won an optional claiming race at Aqueduct and has a record of two for seven lifetime. Julien Leparoux will ride.

Acting Out will break on the rail. The Exploit colt hails from the Grant Hofmans barn and has made all of his five career starts at Turway Park. On March 1st, Acting Out broke his maiden by a 1/2 length.

The other entrants are Tejanos Eliminator, two for four for trainer Ken McPeek, with both wins coming on a synthetic surface; Targe, four for six lifetime; Cape of Storms for trainer Jamie Sanders, and the maiden My Sea of Fire.
