Woodbine Racetrack

Since opening in 1956 Woodbine Racetrack has gone through a number of remodels and renovations and is currently the only horseracing track in North America that is capable of staging thoroughbred and standardbred horseracing on the same day.

The racetrack has three different race courses. The outermost course, named the E.P. Taylor Turf course, is for throughbreds. Along with Belmont Park in New York it is the only track in Canadian and American thoroughbred racing that is one and a half miles long. Inside the Taylor course is the main Polytrack course. This course is also for thoroughbreds and in a one mile oval. The third track is an oval standardbred racecourse seven-eighths of a mile, made of crushed limestone.

Woodbine hosts the first and third legs of the Canadian Triple Crown, the Queen’s Plate and the Breeders’ Stakes. The second leg, the Prince of Wales Stakes is held at the Fort Erie Race Track.
