Wood Memorial Preview

This year's $750,000 Wood Memorial (gr. I) at Aqueduct in New York is the story of Kentucky Derby contenders seeking redemption. War Pass, the undefeated champion two-year-old of last year will be looking to make amends after a baffling last place finish in the Tampa Bay Derby (gr. III) last out. The son of Cherokee Run will also be answering distance questions for trainer Nick Zito and jockey Cornelio Velasquez. If he can get loose on the lead, he should be hard to beat.

However, War Pass isn't the only horse trying to throw their proverial back into the Derby ring. Giant Moon, previously undefeated in four starts prior to a dreadful 9th place finish in the Gotham Stakes (gr. III) will be trying to bounce back for trainer Cihard Schosbrg.

Court Vision, too, figures to make some noise at the finish. One of the best two-year-olds of last year, Court Vision was third in the Fountain of Youth (gr. II) for trainer Bill Mott after running seven wide and improving position steadily. He won the Remsen Stakes by a neck in November and also took the Iroquois Stakes last year.

Tale of Ekati and Anak Nakal will be trying to find their 2007 form. Tale of Ekati won the Futurity Stakes (gr. II) at Belmont and was fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile for trainer Barclay Tagg. In his only start as a sophomore this year, Tale of Ekati was a disappointing 6th behind Pyro in the Louisiana Derby (gr. II). Edgar Prado will ride the son of Tale of the Cat on Saturday. Anak Nakal won the Kentucky Jockey Club (gr. II) last year at Churchill Downs, but the son of Victory Gallop finished 7th in the Rebel Stakes (gr. II) at Oaklawn last month for Zito. He's worked two bullets in a row at Palm Meadows in Florida.

Texas Wildcatter has a shot after being second by a nose to Visionaire in the Gotham. He is two for five lifetime for Pletcher and owner Stonerside Stable.
